Judy presented the findings of her dissertation to the International Association of Fire Chiefs' Fire Rescue International Conference 2011 (FRI2011) on August 26, 2011.

Judy successfully defended her doctoral dissertation on June 20, 2011, in her quest for a Ph.D. in Transformative Studies at the California Institute of Integral Studies. Her research consisted of investigating the critical decision-making processes of firefighters and EMTs in the midst of a critical incident. The title of her dissertation is "The Path of the Razor's Edge: An Examination of the Flow Experiences of Firefighters."

Judy has also received her certification in EQ-i 2.0, an emotional intelligence assessment tool.
